Sponsored Agents: ads you can talk to
Sponsored Agents let someone who sees your ChatGPT ad open a chat with an agent for your business, inside ChatGPT. OpenAI began testing them on Sept 16, 2026, with select US advertisers only.

How it works
- A person sees your ad under a ChatGPT answer.
- They choose to go deeper and open a conversation with your sponsored agent.
- That chat is labeled, runs separately from their original conversation, and is not ChatGPT's own answer.
Why it matters
A normal ad sends people to your website. A Sponsored Agent keeps them in ChatGPT and lets them ask your business questions first. For products that need explaining, like software, travel or big purchases, that is closer to a sales conversation than a click.
What launched alongside it
- AI text customization: opt in, and your headline and description are adapted to each conversation and translated.
- Ads Manager in ChatGPT: create and edit campaigns by typing requests.
- HubSpot: the first CRM partner. Manage ads and follow up on leads there.
- Shopify: the ChatGPT Ads app for merchants, using the Shopify Catalog.
What we do not know yet
OpenAI has not said how Sponsored Agents are priced, how agents are built or reviewed, or when access widens. We will update this page when it does.
